We thought we had mastered digital technology. In reality, we were only at the beginning.
AI has put things back into perspective. Rather than discussing it calmly to envision the future, camps oppose each other, tearing themselves apart… under the reassured gaze of major corporations in the sector.
I do not judge. I hold no absolute truth. Just a little Frenchman, a graphic designer, wondering for himself and his family : what does tomorrow hold ?
This phrase, seemingly harsh, has stood the test of time and probably sums up the main issue well.
Many topics come and go over the weeks and months. Yet, despite our intelligence and ability to communicate, we struggle to engage in peaceful dialogue and accept perspectives different from our own.
We forget that our strength does not lie in uniformity of thought but in our ability to converse and move forward together.
AI is no exception to this divide.
As I wrote in another article, it can be a tremendous driver of progress, particularly in medicine and ecology. But it also threatens jobs and reshuffles the deck in many areas.
Should we ignore it ? Embrace it ? Fear it ?
Honestly, I don’t know. My thoughts collide, and I don’t feel legitimate enough to offer a clear answer today.
But one thing is certain : we have to start somewhere.
History has already shown us the way, confronting us with times of change. Yet, we still struggle to learn and sit down together to build the future.
My parents often tell me that, at my age, they didn’t worry too much about tomorrow. Jobs were available, salaries followed, and life moved forward without existential anxiety.
Is that still true today ? I don’t think so.
We have gained opportunities. We can launch projects from anywhere, learn at a dizzying pace thanks to the internet… and now, AI accelerates the pace even further.
But have we really come out ahead ?
More convenience, yes. But in exchange, haven’t we also gained more precariousness ?
I don’t mean to sound like a grumpy old man tucked away in the mountains of Franche-Comté. But aren’t we leaving many people behind ?
The internet has connected the whole world… yet we have never been so alone.
Why would it be any different with AI ?
Adapt or die.
This phrase is championed in social networks by those who, ironically, might be the first to disappear. It’s thrown at those who dare to ask a simple question : Are we heading in the right direction or not ?
They proudly proclaim that AI can replace certain jobs… But if it's that easy, who will need them tomorrow ?
No one knows where we are heading.
Once revered, the job of a "prompt engineer" is already in decline. Tomorrow, AI will understand exactly what we want. Companies like OpenAI seek efficiency : fewer obstacles, more users, more profits.
Those who think they control the wave may soon be swallowed by it.
Whether we like it or not, AI is here.
Every technological revolution has followed the same pattern. The fact that we are in 2025 doesn’t change history.
We are living through one now, marked by major challenges. Environmental crises, geopolitical tensions, diseases appearing earlier and earlier…
But what if this was an opportunity to return to the essentials ? To free up time for the things that truly matter to us ?
AI will replace jobs. That is a fact. But couldn’t it also become a personal assistant, finally helping us dedicate time to projects we’ve always postponed ? Those we never dared to pursue due to financial or practical reasons. Projects that could have a real impact on us and those around us.
To cultivate ourselves, to learn more easily, to reclaim our independence. To rebuild a society of connections rather than a collection of isolated individuals.
In the end, doesn’t AI force us to confront ourselves ?
Isn’t the real issue that we are realizing the end of our carefree existence ? The fear of what tomorrow may bring ?
On January 20, 1961, John Fitzgerald Kennedy said at his inauguration : "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."
Isn’t it time to take responsibility for ourselves and stop depending on outdated political systems, no matter their side ?
Perhaps the real question isn’t "What is our professional future ?" but rather "What is our place in the future of humanity ? Our Humanity."
As I write these lines, ideas come to mind.
Why not rethink the use of NFTs, not as a speculative tool, but as a way to protect creators ? The question is on the table today. With AI-driven search engines like Perplexity or Qwant Next, how can websites ensure their revenue ?
Could open-source AIs, installable locally via LM Studio, be the real alternative ? A personal, sovereign, independent ecosystem where our notes, journal, and creations become fertile ground for our own benefit rather than others'.
Speaking of open-source… Linux ? What if Europe finally embraced digital independence with a simple, elegant, and efficient operating system for the average person ? Starting with mobile, then moving to tablets, and finally computers.
From challenger to leader ? Why not. Many things once seemed impossible until today…
So many questions. As always.
